The Issue

As a parent with children who are students in this very school system, I find it highly inappropriate and intrusive for schools to take over the responsibility of religious education - a realm best left to families and individual belief systems. Our children have diverse religious backgrounds and any form of favoritism poses a threat to their fundamental rights, especially for those who are not from the Protestant faith. Given this, I am deeply concerned about the recent decision to approve the Bluebonnet Curriculum which has the potential to bias religious teachings.

Given the importance of separation of church and state, it becomes imperative that the curriculum in our public schools remains neutral and free from specific religious teachings. Research conducted in 2017 by Pew Research Center revealed that 77% of American adults believe that it is important to keep religion separate from government policies. This reinforces the fact that most Americans agree on the importance of maintaining a religious-neutral environment in public schools (Source: Pew Research Center).

Additionally, before any decision is made in the realm of the classroom it is imperative that the teachers that will implement any curriculum have the opportunity to review materials and have their voice heard.

In light of these facts and considerations, we request the school board to reconsider the vote for the implementation of the Bluebonnet Curriculum and strive to maintain an environment where educational content is unbiased, neutral and respects the diverse backgrounds of all students. Sign this petition and stand for true educational neutrality in our schools.
