The Issue

Having spent fifteen years dedicated to education, I've served in four different schools and observed countless others. Yet, upon experiencing Bloomingdale Elementary, it became evident that this isn't just a school—it's a cornerstone of our community. As a mother of three Bloomingdale Bears, I know firsthand the unique environment that fosters not only education but also a sense of belonging and community which is irreplaceable.

Recent proposed changes by the Savannah Chatham County Schools Board of Education threaten to disrupt this nurturing environment by transferring students, including my youngest, to Pooler Early Learning Center next year, only to switch them back shortly after. This back-and-forth is not just a logistical headache for families; it fosters instability for students who flourish in a consistent learning environment.

Bloomingdale Elementary offers a personalized and community-driven approach to education that could be diluted if these changes are enacted. Research indicates that students thrive when they can establish and maintain relationships with teachers and peers over a sustained period, which is jeopardized by shifting school environments.

We urge the Savannah Chatham County Schools Board to reassess the proposed school changes, considering both the developmental needs of our children and the strength of our community bonds. Let's preserve the environment that makes Bloomingdale Elementary a true neighborhood treasure.

Please sign this petition to show your support for maintaining the identity and continuity of Bloomingdale Elementary, ensuring our children have the supportive, stable education they deserve.
