Urge ROC board to change ticket claim policy for students or begin issuing refunds
The Issue
The ROC needs reform or refunds!
Picture this: you're a student eagerly waiting for a chance to cheer for your team at a major sporting event, something you’ve been looking forward to all semester. You've followed all the protocols, purchased your $250 ROC pass, and have just finished a week full of classes designed to be rigorous and stretching. However you are denied a ticket because you didn’t attend an Olympic Sports game two weeks ago and now will likely be barred from BYU football for the rest of the season.
It's not just a loss of an opportunity to support your peers; it's a financial setback for students on tight budgets. This situation is becoming increasingly common under the current system managed by the ROC board, leaving many frustrated and disappointed.
The current ticket claim is inconsistent and often leads to students being unfairly denied entry to events they have technically paid for. It's critical for the ROC board to acknowledge these issues and make necessary changes. Each time a student is turned away, they lose not only financially due to non-refundable ROC passes but also miss out on building communal spirit and supporting their fellow students.
Statistics show that sport events play a pivotal role in enhancing school spirit and camaraderie. According to a study conducted by the National Centre for Education Statistics, over 65% of students engage in or support school-related sports activities. Excluding students through faulty ticket-claim systems undermines these opportunities and reduces overall participation, which is detrimental to community building, something BYU prides itself in.
We urge the ROC board to either implement a more fair system to ALL of it’s students or offer immediate refunds to students who are denied entry, honoring the tickets they have rightly purchased. A potential solution includes returning to last years system which honored a first come, first served basis, rather than prioritizing attendance to games students do not want to and cannot attend.
We need to stand together to advocate for fairness, inclusivity, and respect for student investments. By signing this petition, you are helping promote a better experience for all students and ensuring that they are not penalized by administrative oversights. Join us in calling for change to ensure school events are accessible and enjoyable for EVERYONE. Sign the petition and support student rights!
