Urge Richmond School Board to reject ICE and Anne Holton

Urge Richmond School Board to reject ICE and Anne Holton
The Issue
It is of utmost importance that the Richmond School Board take a stand against the influence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in our community. ICE's actions have led to significant trauma and harm to countless families and individuals, and it's our duty to protect our community from further damage. Unfortunately, there is a proposal to appoint Anne Holton, the wife of Senator Tim Kaine, to a position of influence in this very district. This is troubling due to Senator Kaine's concerning alignment with Republicans in support of Secretary Noem, whose policies reflect the harmful ethos of ICE.
Recent reports and community testimonies have highlighted the injustices perpetrated by ICE across various states, leading to unnecessary family separations, psychological strain on children, and even cases of unjust deaths. Virginia should not turn a blind eye to these realities. Our state has a responsibility to lead with compassion and inclusive policies that do not marginalize our most vulnerable community members.
Appointing Anne Holton, considering her connections and potential influence, could inadvertently signal support for these damaging policies. This goes against the values of inclusion and safety we strive to uphold in Richmond. We must remain vigilant against promoting individuals who may not vocally oppose such regressive measures.
Instead of moving forward with Anne Holton's appointment, the Richmond School Board should consider candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to protecting human rights and fostering a safe environment for all students, regardless of their background. Let us prioritize individuals who are vocal about supporting policies rooted in fairness and equity.
We urge the Richmond School Board to take a stand and reject any association with measures that echo ICE's destructive ethos. The decision made here sets a precedent for how we expect our community to be governed and protected. Please add your voice and sign this petition to demand the Richmond School Board reject both ICE and Anne Holton's appointment. Together, we can shape a future rooted in justice and empathy.
