Urge Rep Berry-Dahlkemper-Green-Hodes-Hoyer to support Inclusive Comprehensive Immigration Reform

The Issue

This week's letter writing campaign is directed at Rep. Marion Berry (D-AR-1), Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA-23), Rep. Gene Green (D-TX-29), Rep. Paul Hodes (D-NH-1) and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD-5).  We are asking them to support Equal Immigration Rights for Same-Sex Binational Couples by sponsoring the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) as well ensure that LGBT Families remain in the framework for Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) as proposed by leading Senate Democrats.

It has been largely due to the sending of these letters each week, the phone calls you make to Congress, the visits with your representatives and their staff and the local actions you take – getting your city to pass a resolution in support of UAFA or taking part in immigrant rights marches and building coalitions that has led to UAFA being the immigration bill with the most co-sponsors. We must continue to keep the pressure on with these grassroots actions, including re-circulating this information through Facebook and Twitter.

In addition to having 123 co-sponsors in the House and 23 in the Senate for UAFA, we also have the support of 60 members of Congress from the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.  They sent a letter to President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Schumer and Rep. Lofgren expressing their strong support for a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would end discrimination against LGBT binational families.

We encourage you to take part in this campaign by using one of four options:

1)  The easiest one. By clicking through and adding your name to this page, you send ALL FIVE of this week’s letters to Congress AT ONCE.  You can also provide the link to your friends and family to take action too!

2)  Contact the 5 Congressional representatives listed here with your own letter and your own story.

3)  Create a booklet telling your story. See http://tinyurl.com/o4i-toolkit1 for more info on this option.

4)  Check out our other actions on change.org's action page and sign the other week's petition too so that we can get more support in Congress for the Uniting American Families Act and LGBT inclusion in Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Thank you for taking action!

Out4Immigration is an all grassroots organization.  Each week we write to a list of representatives in Congress or the Senate to ask them to support equal immigration rights for Same-Sex Binational couples and to become a cosponsor of the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) and to support an inclusive Comprehensive Immigration Reform that includes LGBT Families.  You can also find us on Blogger (out4immigration.blogspot.com), Facebook (facebook.com/out4immigration) and  Twitter(@out4immigration)
