Urge Reform Wakefield Council to cancel proposed parking permit charges
The Issue
Recent proposals by Wakefield Council threaten to undermine this aspect of our lives by imposing a £25 annual fee for resident parking permits and £10 for visitor permits and business parking permits from £50-£80 a year.
For many families , parking near our own homes is a fundamental necessity. However, these proposed charges would create an additional financial burden on households already grappling with rising living costs. It is unreasonable to expect residents to bear yet another expense just to park or have guests over.
Statistics show that, across the UK, living costs have increased by over 10% in the past year alone, leaving many struggling to make ends meet. Adding parking fees on top of this only exacerbates the financial strain on ordinary families.
Particularly concerning is the impact on our most vulnerable community members. Elderly, disabled, and vulnerable residents, who often rely on visits from family and friends for support, would suffer disproportionately. For these groups, easy access to parking is not just a convenience but a necessity.
By signing this petition, you join us in telling Wakefield Council that we value accessibility and affordability, and we stand against unfair financial burdens on residents and business .
We demand that the Reform led council reconsider these proposals and cancel these charges.
