Urge Radisson Group to Amend the Moroccan Map in Respect of Territorial Integrity
The Issue
As a Moroccan Sahrawi who has worked closely with Moroccan officials and defended my country’s territorial integrity, I am moved to action by a matter of deep personal and national importance to me. I have always held a strong sense of national unity, a conviction that is shared by countless other Moroccans who are frustrated by misrepresentations of our country’s borders on an international level.
Particularly concerning is Radisson Group's depiction of our beloved country's map. Nowadays, the representation and recognition of any country's borders are not only of political importance but also deeply tied to its people’s identity and sense of sovereignty. Thus, we are calling on Radisson Group, to do the right thing and correct its depiction of the Moroccan map.
Additionally, as someone who has worked in Sweden and Norway, I have witnessed firsthand how global perceptions can impact national pride and economic opportunities. Morocco is no exception to this. Our vibrant tourism industry, a lifeline for our economy and a source of income for millions of Moroccans, could be affected by persistent misrepresentations. As per the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism, this industry constitutes 7% of Morocco's GDP, showing its crucial importance [source: Oxford Business Group].
This importance is why we must change faulty worldviews about our Moroccan land. Not just for the integrity of our nation and the dignity of our citizens, but also for the economic well-being of countless individuals who rely on our tourism industry and stand to suffer from misconceptions about our borders.
In light of these concerns, I appeal directly to the Radisson Group to understand the depth of our attachment to our national unity and make the necessary corrections to the Moroccan map on their platform.
