Urge prosecutor to raise charges against Lovemans in Flagler County animal abuse case
The Issue
I live in Flagler County and see first hand the CONSTANT efforts of Caroline Johnson and her SMART rescue. Several days ago I was on a long work shift and saw her post about several chihuahuas that had been dumped off near the border of St John's and Flagler counties. Caroline and many others sprung into action immediately, to go rescue them. Unfortunately and very tragically, three of those pups were hit and killed almost immediately. It was then an effort to get those babies the help they needed, but also to find those responsible for dumping them. It was just days later that I came to learn that it turned out neighbors just doors away, were not only responsible for the poor pups dumped...but that an ADDITIONAL 51 pups were also found in horrid, abused conditions, in their home. I became not only shocked to learn who they were, but immediately angry and heartbroken for the poor pups. To even think of what they've had to endure, is gut wrenching.
Carolyn Loveman ran a local coffee "food truck" business, which was literally days prior, upgraded to a new and larger trailer, prior to her arrest. Yet despite clearly having the funds for that, they dumped off 20 innocent chihuahuas, and then had an additional 51 under deplorable, abusive conditions in their home. Not one cared for the way they were supposed to be, and deserved to be.
Despite the gravity of their actions, the charges leveled against the Lovemans do not reflect the severity of their crimes. State Attorney R.J. Larizza, who leads the Office of the State Attorney for Florida's 7th Judicial Circuit, has the authority to amend this by bringing more severe felony charges against Carolyn Loveman AND extending those charges to her husband, Chris Loveman as well as any other adults that knew and took part in the dumping and abuse of these innocent lives.
The brutality in this case cannot be overlooked. Each of those dogs had a right to a life filled with love and care, not the callousness and neglect they suffered. The current charges fail to deliver justice for the innocent animals that endured such suffering and for the community that values animal welfare.
Furthermore, the Lovemans should be held accountable, not only legally, but financially. They should be required to sell their newly acquired business trailer and made to pay restitution to Caroline Johnson/SMART Rescue for the rehabilitation and care of the dogs they rescued and are caring for. Finally, they should also be PROHIBITED FOR LIFE, from EVER being allowed to have or even be around any animals, as they pose a severe threat to them.
We urge State Attorney R.J. Larizza to take decisive and just action by upgrading the charges against Carolyn Loveman for her cruel actions (there should be a felony charge for each of the three pups hit and killed), by also pursuing charges against Chris Loveman (and any other accountable adults), enforce restitution to SMART Rescue AND ensure the Loveman's NEVER be able to bring harm to any other animal, EVER...by PROHIBITING them from ever having or being around any animals. We seek justice for every precious dog's life impacted by their negligence and cruelty.
Please, join us in our fight to secure a future in which animal abusers face the full consequences of their actions. By signing this petition, you are standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. WE are their voice! Demand justice for the voiceless. PLEASE, sign now and share with all possible.
