This includes those named on Kash Patel's "enemy list." As a democracy, our nation represents a society where the freedom of its citizens should never be undermined by the personal vexations of its leaders. Over the years, our media and judicial systems have served as checks on political power, providing a balance that forms the spine of our nation's democracy. To erode this through acts of revenge sets an alarming precedent. Freedom House's 2020 report confirms that the U.S. democracy score has been on a decline over the past decade, emphasizing the importance of upholding our democratic principles now more than ever (Freedom House 2020). Taking this vital action will uphold a positive trend, guaranteeing the liberties of those singled out for retribution, defending our system from conceivable autocracy, and ensuring our nation doesn’t devolve into a 'Banana Republic.'
