The Issue

I dedicated years of hard work to achieve the American Dream, and part of that dream was owning a home in a peaceful, close-knit community in Point Pleasant. This neighborhood isn't just a location; it's where my children ride their bikes to the local park, where families gather, and where fishermen dot the canal's edge, indulging in the simplicity and beauty our community offers.

Unfortunately, that dream is now at risk. A developer seeks to build 16 three-story townhomes at the intersection of Howe and Grove Streets. This construction proposal includes homes situated a mere nine feet from the street and driveways instead of parking spaces, along with extensive paving. This means increased flood risks due to water runoff into the Point Pleasant Canal and, eventually, the Barnegat Bay, disrupting the delicate environmental balance that our locality strives to maintain.

The planned development threatens to decimate the quiet charm that makes our neighborhood a desirable place to live. The increased traffic, reduced privacy, and potential for heavy congestion would not only diminish the quality of life but could also devalue our homes, harming families who have invested their lives here.

What’s at stake is not just the zoning variance but the character and future of our community. The Point Pleasant Zoning Board is responsible for safeguarding our local environment and the well-being of its residents. Allowing this variance sets a dangerous precedent of eroding zoning regulations that keep our neighborhood intact.

It is crucial that the Zoning Board hears our voice and understands the profound negative impact of this project on our beloved neighborhood. We're calling on like-minded residents, environmentalists, and anyone who cherishes the sanctity of quiet, communal living to help us take a stand.

Please join me in urging the Point Pleasant Borough Zoning Board to deny the variance that would allow these townhomes to be built. Your signature can make a difference in preserving the integrity and safety of our community for future generations. Let’s ensure our peaceful neighborhood remains a place where families can thrive, just like mine. Sign this petition to protect our home.
