Once they arrive at the store, the situation doesn't necessarily improve.

Birds in Petco are kept in small glass enclosures, devoid of sufficient enrichment or stimulation, which is essential for their mental well-being. There is no veterinary staff on-site to address health issues or emergencies, and the birds are left alone overnight without supervision or care. Moreover, these birds are sold to anyone, without proper vetting or ensuring that the buyer understands the responsibility of caring for birds.

Parrots and other birds are highly social and intelligent animals that require a lot of attention and specific care. When kept as pets without understanding and commitment from the owner, their welfare is at risk.
