Urge Perhilitan to Help a Grieving Mother Elephant

Urge Perhilitan to Help a Grieving Mother Elephant
The Issue
I witnessed an extraordinary display of love and devotion when a mother elephant stayed by the side of her deceased baby for up to five hours in Malaysia. It was a heart-wrenching scene that touched me deeply. Despite the tragedy, I saw hope in the mother's determination to stay by her baby's side until help arrived the next morning. Her dedication and love were palpable and unforgettable.
It is for this reason that we are calling upon the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) to allow the mother elephant to see the body of her deceased baby. Allowing her to see and say goodbye to her calf may help her come to terms with this loss. We believe that this act of compassion is crucial for helping the grieving mother move forward and start a new chapter in her life without carrying the burden of not knowing what happened to her calf.
While it may seem insignificant to some, the emotional wellbeing of animals is as important as our own. This small yet significant act of allowing closure can prevent prolonged grief full of despair for the mother elephant and help her begin the healing process. We owe it to these magnificent creatures to show empathy, understanding, and kindness by providing opportunities for them to understand and accept their losses, just as we do for humans.
Therefore, we implore Perhilitan to take swift action by arranging for the mother elephant to be brought where the calf’s body was found. In the wild, elephants have been seen to mourn their dead, a ritual that plays a critical role in their emotional healing. By facilitating this, Perhilitan would not only show respect for the natural behaviors of these incredible animals but also highlight their commitment to ethical wildlife management.
Let's join together to demand that the Perhilitan department acts with compassion and allows this grieving mother elephant the chance to say a proper goodbye to her deceased calf. Every signature sends a message of love, compassion, and understanding. Help us provide this grieving mother with the closure she deserves.
