The Issue

As an employee of a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals living with mental illness, I am deeply concerned about the ongoing budget impasse in the Pennsylvania legislature. Our organization exclusively employs individuals with mental illness, offering them both meaningful work and a supportive community. However, the current budget stalemate threatens not only our organization's mission but also the livelihood and well-being of over 350 individuals we directly support in Northampton County already facing significant challenges.

The failure to pass a state budget has led to County funded programs being slated for closure, which would have devastating consequences for our community. These programs provide essential services to individuals with disabilities, offering vital support and resources that enable them to live independently and with dignity. Without these programs, many will find themselves without the services they rely on to manage their mental health and maintain their quality of life.

Moreover, the closure of these programs would result in job losses for our dedicated staff, all of whom are living with mental illness and rely on their jobs not just as a source of income, but as a critical form of support and personal fulfillment. It is unconscionable to allow individuals who are already marginalized to suffer further due to political gridlock.

We urge Pennsylvania Senators to prioritize the needs of their constituents over political disagreements and resolve the budget impasse immediately. The continued delay threatens the stability and security of thousands across the state who depend on County services for their daily survival and well-being.

THIS PURPOSE OF THIS PETITION IS NOT FOR FINANCIAL DONATIONS. YOUR VOICE IS THE MOST VALUABLE TOOL WE HAVE! Please add your voice to ours by signing this petition. Together, we can send a powerful message to our Senators that the lives and livelihoods of Pennsylvanians must come before partisan politics. Now is the time for action and leadership.
