The Issue
In the North West province, the recent move by the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), dominated by the N12 faction, to impose Cde Viola as Speaker of the Legislature, is a direct affront to the principles of democracy and accountability. As members of this community, we entrusted the ANC with our votes not to protect factional interests, but to safeguard and enhance our hard-won democratic gains.
Cde Viola's record as the MEC of Education is marred by inefficiencies and shortcomings, raising serious concerns about her ability to fulfill the crucial role of the Speaker. The Speaker’s role is pivotal in ensuring government accountability and transparency. Hence, it is imperative that this position is filled by someone with an impeccable track record and the capability to uphold these values unwaveringly.
We believe in the presence of capable and competent leaders within our ranks. Hon. Magagane, for example, has demonstrated the qualities needed to serve as a distinguished Speaker.
