The Issue
As a parent of two wonderful children with additional needs, I've seen firsthand the devastating impact that inadequate funding can have on their education and future. Despite the best efforts of dedicated teachers and support staff, my children's school simply does not have the resources necessary to fully support their learning needs, leaving them at a disadvantage that is not only unfair but heartbreaking.
In many schools across our nation, the story is much the same. Children with additional and complex needs are being let down by an outdated funding model that does not reflect the real challenges faced by today's classrooms. According to a recent study by the National Association of Head Teachers, over 70% of school leaders reported insufficient funding to adequately support children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). This isn't just a statistic; it represents countless children who are not receiving the education they deserve.
The consequence of this shortfall in funding is profound. It means fewer specialist teachers, reduced access to essential teaching aids, and inadequate support for these children to reach their full potential. Every child deserves the right to quality education, yet our funding system is currently failing to ensure this basic right for some of our most vulnerable students.
To address this issue, we must urge Parliament to reevaluate and reform the current educational funding allocations. There needs to be a significant increase in the dedicated funding for students with additional needs, enabling schools to provide necessary resources such as specialized teaching staff, inclusive classroom equipment, and ongoing training for educational professionals.
Reforming the funding model will not only help current students but also pave the way for future generations to receive the support they need. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a fairer, more inclusive educational system that caters to all children, regardless of their needs.
Join me in calling for change – a change that will bring about a brighter, more equitable future for our children. Please sign this petition to demand that Parliament takes action to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.
