The issue

In the early 2000s, I had the immense honor of serving with the New Zealand army in Timor-Leste. This was a pivotal period in my life, as we assisted the Timorese people in their journey towards peace and stability. Serving in this capacity was both challenging and deeply rewarding, and I am immensely proud of the contributions we made during our deployment.

Recently, the offer from the government of Timor-Leste has extended to acknowledge those who served in support of their nation by awarding the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal. Australia has accepted this generous offer, recognizing the sacrifices and commitment of its veterans. It is now imperative that New Zealand follows suit, ensuring that those who served a minimum of 30 days in Timor-Leste are also honored with this prestigious award.

The medal stands as a testament to the solidarity and friendship between our two nations and serves as a meaningful acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by New Zealand veterans. Recognition of our efforts is a crucial step in honoring and preserving the historical ties that bind New Zealand to Timor-Leste.

New Zealand's acceptance of this offer would not only validate the dedication and service provided by its veterans but also reinforce the longstanding relationship between the two nations. This action will promote mutual respect and recognition at the governmental level and provide the deserved appreciation for those who risked so much to aid this country in need.

Join me in urging the New Zealand government to accept the Timorese offer. By doing so, you will be helping to honor the courage and commitment of New Zealand's veterans in Timor-Leste. Please sign this petition and help us advocate for this recognition. Your support is vital in ensuring that our efforts and sacrifices are acknowledged appropriately.
