Urge Norfolk to fix Sewells Point Elementary Parking

Urge Norfolk to fix Sewells Point Elementary Parking
The Issue
As a concerned parent and resident of the Norfolk Pointe Housing community, I am deeply troubled by the lack of safe parking options at Sewells Point Elementary School. Our families are left with no choice but to park in our residential area, causing an increase in traffic and posing a risk to our children's safety. There have been several incidents where cars race through our neighborhood to reach the school's back gate for drop-offs or pick-ups. This would be significantly reduced if parking options were available at the school.
The grassy area near Sewells Point Elementary is currently underutilized and could be transformed into a safe parking space for parents and guests. This would not only alleviate traffic congestion in our community but also provide a safer environment for our children. According to the National Safety Council, more than 50,000 crashes occur in parking lots and garage structures annually - this risk can be mitigated with proper planning (National Safety Council).
The photo below shows the only current parking which is utilized by staff is marked on the map in yellow. This petition is to ask that NPS turns the red locations into paved parking options.
We urge Norfolk Public Schools to prioritize this issue that directly impacts both student safety and community well-being. By paving this grassy area, we can create an accessible parking lot that will benefit everyone involved.
Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer communities for our students at Sewells Point Elementary School.
