New Mexico State University (NMSU) is an institution that prides itself on fostering learning, inquiry, diversity, inclusion, and service to the broader community. Despite the supposed mission and continuous demands from its student body, NMSU has refused to express any support for the Palestinian people as they endure an ongoing genocide at the hands of the Israeli Occupational Force (IOF). Our institution, New Mexico State University, must take a stand and urgently address the war crimes and genocidal campaigns of the IOF collectively as this genocide has persisted for 7 months as of May 2024. We, the students of NMSU and signees, demand that the NMSU administration and Board of Regents issue a public statement on behalf of our institution calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza from all fighting parties.

This action will not only reflect our commitment to justice for the Palestinian people but also help set an example for other educational institutions across the country. Beyond their silence on the ongoing genocide against Palestinians, the NMSU administration has not disclosed details of financial ties to all companies and Israeli institutions that profit directly from the genocide. NMSU administration and the Board of Regents must be held accountable for their part in upholding the illegitimate state of Israel and contributing to the funding of the apartheid state. A statement in support of a permanent ceasefire is only the first step.
