Urge Nevada Cosmetology Board to Reassess Threading Rules

The Issue

The Nevada State Board of Cosmetology recently enforced regulations that prevent threaders from using essential tools like small brow scissors, tweezers, and brushes and restrict the use of antiseptics.

This doesn’t just affect professionals, it affects the public. Clients are being denied clean, precise, and hygienic services. Threading is a centuries-old technique, and these tools are necessary for balanced, polished results. Antiseptics are a basic hygiene practice that prevent irritation, breakouts, and infection.

Nevada already has clear sanitation rules for disposable and reusable tools, which registered threaders follow. Restricting these tools and antiseptics creates unnecessary barriers without improving safety.

This change disproportionately affects woman and immigrant owned businesses and limits public access to quality services.

We urge the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology to reconsider this interpretation and allow threaders to provide safe, hygienic, high-quality services within established regulations.
