I am a single mother with three children in NEISD. Each school day, my children rely on buses to get them safely to and from school. I work and do not have the luxury of dropping them off to school myself otherwise I will be at least 30 minutes late to work. These buses have proven to be unreliable in terms of timing under normal circumstances. I can’t imagine how it would be during inclement weather conditions. Many students also walk to and from school and also may not have the luxury of parents dropping/picking them up. 

On January 16th, severe cold weather is forecasted for our area. A Wind Chill Warning and Advisory is in effect in South Texas into Tuesday except over areas along and near the Rio Grande Plains. Wind chills will range from 10 degrees below zero to 10 degrees above zero are expected.

As a concerned parent and member of this community, I believe it is crucial that we prioritize the safety of our children over their attendance at school for one day. Therefore, I propose that NEISD classes be cancelled on January 16th due to these inclement weather conditions. By doing so, we can ensure our children's safety while also preventing any potential weather related accidents.
