Urge Natick Legislators to Implement Effective Vape Disposal Methods

The Issue

Keep Our Town Clean, Dispose of Vapes Green

The popularity of vaping has led to a significant rise in the number of discarded vape devices. These devices, often made from plastic and containing hazardous chemicals, pose a serious threat to our environment. In Natick, MA, like many other places across the country, there is currently no effective system in place for disposing of these harmful products.

Vapes are classified as electronic waste and contain lithium-ion batteries which can combust if not properly disposed of (source: Environmental Protection Agency). Additionally, they contain nicotine which is toxic to aquatic life (source: National Institutes of Health). This makes them unsuitable for regular trash or recycling bins.

We call on our leaders to recognize this growing issue and work towards implementing effective disposal methods for vapes. This could include establishing dedicated drop-off points in Natick.

Natick has collection events, but most of them require the person to remove the lithium-ion battery from the vape. This is extremely dangerous, so it is strongly recommended for a professional to do it instead.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a cleaner and safer Natick. Let's urge our decision-makers to take action now!
