Urge NASA to Reconsider the Information Exposed on Voyager Golden Records

The Issue

As an ordinary teenager who deeply cares about humanity and our home, Earth, I find it disquieting to contemplate the potential implications of the sensitive information NASA has released aboard the Voyager twin probes. These probes are currently voyaging endlessly through our solar system, and possibly the universe, in search of extra-terrestrial life. Our concern springs from the knowledge we've provided about Earth, its location, our technology, and life on Earth contained in the Golden Records on these Voyager probes.

Since the beginning of their mission, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 have ventured into the unknown armed with these Golden Records, which serve as a sort of time capsule, intended to communicate the story of our world to extraterrestrials (NASA, 2017). But herein lies the predicament; should these hypothetical advanced extra-terrestrial civilizations find these probes, there is a potential risk that this information could be used against us.

While it was indeed a monumental step for mankind, symbolizing our innate curiosity and unyielding spirit of discovery, it may be prudent for NASA to reassess the potential for such information to cause unforeseen harmful consequences.

With this in mind, we request NASA to engage in a robust debate regarding the potential implications of the information included in the Golden Records of the Voyager probes. While we understand and appreciate the significance of aiming to connect with extraterrestrial life, it is paramount that we do so responsibly, without compromising the safety of our planet and humanity.

Kindly join this cause and support the urge for NASA to reconsider the information exposed on Voyager's Golden Records. Hale Humanity! Sign this petition today.
