Urge Napa City Council to Approve Child Development Center in Alta Heights

Urge Napa City Council to Approve Child Development Center in Alta Heights
The Issue
Please sign this petition to implore Napa City Council to support Napa families and young children over the NIMBYs in Alta Heights.
Napa is in the midst of a childcare crisis. There is 1 spot for every 10 families who need it. Beyond childcare, families with children ages 0-5 have very few options within Napa for activities that are suitable for the whole family.
Le Petit Elephant Nursery and Preschool has a one-of-a-kind opportunity to increase childcare access for the families of Napa AND to create a child development center focused on building community for families with young children at a new facility in Alta Heights. LPE has already secured a unanimous approval for their use permit from the Planning Commission, but a small group of neighbors in Alta Heights has appealed and is forcing the issue in front of the Napa City Council on May 21st. Please voice your support for this project by signing this petition and show city council members that this project has wide reaching benefits that should not be overshadowed by the self interest, or unfounded fears, of a few neighbors.
A once-in-a-generation opportunity has arisen for Le Petit Elephant to acquire a beautiful existing facility in Alta Heights, formerly the Mormon Church. This site has the space and facilities to create more than 60 new childcare spaces for Napa families, much of which would be desperately needed infant/toddler spots.
In addition there is space for a small teacher-led playroom for parents/caregivers to come with their kiddo during the day and expose their child to socializing and play in a classroom environment while getting some work done or connecting with other parents without having to enroll in full-time care. This same space will be available for affordable weekend birthday parties for children 1-5 years old; an age group that has very few affordable options in Napa.
This facility has a gorgeous full sized gymnasium with a proper stage on one end. Outside of school hours this beautiful space could be used for child and family centered activities organized by LPE such as puppet shows, family pizza and movie nights, family game nights, fun child-centered shows and stage performances, etc. It could also be made available to members of the community looking for a space to host their own child/family centered activities such as Scouts meetings, kids basketball practice, birthdays, youth theater rehearsal, indoor soccer match, etc. If you are a parent of young children in Napa, you stand to benefit from at least one or more aspects of this project.
All this and more could be lost if this vocal minority gets their wish to see this project shut down. Please sign this petition to show your support and don’t forget to come out to City Hall on Tuesday May 21st 2024 at 6:30pm to show your support for Napa Families!
If you cannot come speak at City Council, or even if you can, please write a short email in support of the project and send it to clerk@cityofnapa.org
Don’t forget to cc your local council member and the mayor as well.
