Two homeowners in our neighborhood have been rearing chickens in their houses, causing significant disturbances and health hazards for everyone in the vicinity. Despite being issued samans by the Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Langat (MPKL), these individuals continue their illegal activities, blatantly defying regulations.
As residents, we are directly affected by this situation. The chickens do not remain confined to their owners' properties, but rather, roam freely, defecating everywhere from our gardens to the playground where our children play. The noise is incessant, particularly during early mornings, disrupting our sleep and daily peace. This problem is not just a nuisance; it poses a genuine health risk due to unsanitary conditions and potential spread of diseases, especially with chicken droppings contaminating shared spaces.
Under Act 172 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1976, such agricultural activities are strictly prohibited within residential zones. This provision exists to ensure that our urban areas remain safe and comfortable for living—not to be encroached upon by disruptive agricultural practices.
