The Issue

My life-long appreciation of Michigan's natural richness leads me to express loudly and passionately my plea to Michigan's Department of Natural Resources. The decision to euthanize, rather than relocate wild geese, attacks the heart of our shared respect for life. The notion that any living being can simply be written off as a 'problem' and disposed traumatizes my understanding of our responsibility towards nature, especially considering that geese form part of our cherished fauna, and aren't causing the existential harm to people of this region.

Indeed, it's worth noting that Canada geese are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 (16 U.S.C. 703-712). Even though their population in Michigan rose up to 300.000 species. Remember, relocation offers a compassionate and humane alternative. There is also a humane way of sterilizing geese which is labor-intensive for surgery but still have more potential in the future then a murder.

I implore the Michigan's Department of Natural Resources to reconsider their approach. Let us not view the existence of wildlife as a nuisance, but as an opportunity to harmoniously balance human advancement with the beauty of nature. As inhabitants of this gorgeous state, it is our duty to ensure wildlife preservation.
