The Issue

I have personally come across some of these videos. What I saw has left me sleepless, sick, and deeply shaken. As someone who works closely with animals and witnesses their suffering far too often in real life, seeing such cruelty spread online without consequences is unbearable. This is not just an abstract issue — it affects me, and thousands of others, on a deeply personal level.

On the global platform of Facebook, disturbing videos depicting animal torture circulate unabated, violating Meta's own community standards and breaching EU regulations aimed at protecting the welfare of animals. The prevalence of such content not only desensitizes viewers but also perpetuates a cycle of violence and indifference towards animal suffering. Facebook, a platform with billions of users, has a moral and legal responsibility to prevent the distribution of these abhorrent videos.

According to recent studies, such as the European Commission’s findings on animal welfare violations online, content involving the abuse of animals is not only a breach of ethical standards but also contributes to a broader societal issue. These videos are harmful, not just to those who view them but to society as a whole, as they lower our collective sensitivity to cruelty and inhumanity.

Meta already has rules in place that explicitly ban this type of content, yet enforcement remains inconsistent and insufficient. It's time for Meta to act decisively to protect animals and communities from the psychological and moral harm caused by the spread of this content.

We call upon Meta to take immediate and effective measures to enforce its community standards and comply with EU laws by:
- Implementing stricter monitoring algorithms to detect and remove animal torture videos swiftly.
- Dedicated task forces to oversee and regulate content moderation specific to harmful animal-related content.
- Collaborating with animal welfare organizations to understand the gravity and impact of these videos.

By signing this petition, you are urging Meta to take the necessary actions to make Facebook a safer and more humane platform. Our collective voice can make a difference. Please sign and share this petition to end the distribution of animal torture videos online.
