Urge Mattel to reconsider Roblox game takedowns

The Issue

In the span of just two days, Mattel took down three of my beloved Roblox Thomas the Tank Engine games. The first two were inspired by the cherished "Day Out with Thomas" events hosted by heritage railways, while the third was called "RO-Scale E2 Recolors (Includes Thomas & Timothy)." Consequently, I found myself scrambling to archive five pages worth of Roblox Thomas games to save them from an untimely demise.

These games were not just simple projects to me; they were creations born out of passion and dedication. I invested a lot of effort into developing them, striving to capture the magic and joy that Thomas the Tank Engine has brought to many of us. Seeing them taken down without warning by Mattel is heartbreaking, further cementing an image of the company as a domineering force that prioritizes control over community engagement and creativity.

Mattel, as a giant in the toy industry and the current rights holder for Thomas the Tank Engine, has an opportunity to foster a more supportive and understanding relationship with its community of fans and creators. Rather than imposing blanket bans on fan-created content, Mattel could work collaboratively with creators to establish guidelines that protect both intellectual property rights and the artistic expression of its devoted fans.

By adopting a more open-minded approach and engaging directly with creators, Mattel could leverage the creativity of the Roblox community to enhance the Thomas brand rather than diminish it. Imagine the potential for fan interaction and brand loyalty through sponsored contests, official recognitions, or even collaborations that respect the original Thomas brand while incorporating community creativity.

We urge Mattel to reconsider their stance on fan-created content, particularly within platforms like Roblox, where creativity and community thrive. By doing so, they can transform an adversarial relationship into a symbiotic one, benefiting fans and the brand alike.

Please join me in asking Mattel to stop taking down our Thomas the Tank Engine games on Roblox and instead start a dialogue that respects and nurtures the creative spirit of its community. Sign this petition to help protect the digital expressions of Thomas fans everywhere.
