URGENT: ICE OUT! We need your voice and presence TODAY at 2pm

Dear Supporter,

If you are at all able to spare a couple hours today, I urge you join me and other community members at Henderson City Hall at 2pm. Today, city officials convene to discuss a training facility to be built and donated by Private Contractor Martin Harris. Henderson's meeting agenda says that it is to be donated to SWAT, but ICE has already submitted inquiries to use it for their training purposes.

Here is today's meeting agenda. Public comment will be taken at the designated Public Comment periods. Individuals will be limited to no more than three minutes. For meeting inquiries, call 702-267-4755.

Here are the details for today's meeting:
2pm at Henderson City Hall
Westgate Conference Room
240 S Water St, Henderson NV 89015

If you have never made public comment, please don't be nervous. People wishing to do so may fill out a comment card. At the appropriate time, their name will be called to approach the podium to speak to members of the committee. Remember, these people work for us! You can be firm, but please remain respectful. Talking points may include concerns for public safety with under-vetted personnel, lack of accountability for agents' illegal actions, and disappointment for state's capitulation in the Trump administration's ethnic cleansing agenda. Bottom line: We want ICE OUT! Out of Vegas, out of Henderson, out of Boulder City, out of Nevada.

If you are unable to make public comment, you can submit your remarks electronically. Click for Henderson City Council and Boulder City Council. City residents are HIGHLY encouraged to make comment, but you do NOT need to be one to remark. ICE presence affects all of us, but it is helpful to provide your full name, city and zip code, so your remark may be counted.

As always, I appreciate your support. Wherever it may lead you, I do hope you find your home in this resistance. Our power is greater together.

For the People,
Naomi Joy

P.S. - We are nearly at 2K signers, so I once again ask you to share this petition with 5 people in your circle and on your social media platforms. A personalized, accompanying message is also helpful when sharing. Lastly, I invite each of you to take a next step in advocating for our community members. Any will bolster support for our neighbors' safety and the protection of our rights.

  1. CONTACT your Senators and Representatives (calls are more effective then emails). Find who they are here. You can call them on their local numbers or simply dial (202) 224-3121 for the Capital Switchboard, ask for your Senator/Congressperson by name and opt to leave a message or speak with a member of their team. You can keep it brief, but be specific. Share which actions you would like to see the most from them. For example, ask them to oppose any further funding for ICE/CBP, conduct an oversight visit to any of our 3 detention centers in NV, or pass state legislation to protect due process when someone is detained.
    2. DONATE to local organizations that help immigrant community members like the ACLU of NV and UNLV's Immigration Clinic.
    3. SUPPORT any of the many partner organizations in the Nevada Immigrant Coalition, however you are able. These organizations provide resources from trainings to legal support and mutual aid.
    4. REPORT ICE/CBP sightings by calling or texting LV Defensa's Hotline at (702) 850-1161, but start with a free online training from the ACLU for best practices.
    5. VOLUNTEER with NDLON's Adopt-A-Corner campaign to support and protect our communities' day laborers and their families.
