Hello Friends and fellow Activists,
Things are heating up! Public pressure is mounting for our legislators to reign in ICE, as support for the Trump regime and DHS decline. This update would be a book if I listed all the infringements Donald Trump has imposed upon our rights, so I will update you on what's been happening in Las Vegas and Henderson. After being featured on news Channel 3, our petition grew from 500 to 1500 signatures in less than 2 weeks! The Nevada Immigrant Coalition, along with other organizations and their supporting community members, showed up in Henderson to urge the City Counsel to end its MoU with ICE, and LV Defensa introduced themselves to our communities, leading volunteer efforts to watch and document ICE activity in our neighborhoods.
I urge you to continue sharing, posting and supporting this petition. As much as I love to write, there is SO much work to be done and efforts to protect our loved ones and neighbors are rapidly growing. If you want to be a part of this joy-filled, passionate, non-violent effort to resist authoritarianism, right here at home, please review the list below. Find an organization you align with and reach out. Much of this work can be done at home, online, or by phone, if being out in the public is not an option. There are group events and self-led volunteer efforts for everyone.
We don't want to wait until mass raids are in our state to fight back. We don't want to wait until another US citizen is murdered, another immigrant resident is brutalized or another child is separated from their family. People are already, and have been, disappearing from local businesses, communities and schools. Students are being harassed online for exercising their first amendment rights. Detainees are being denied medical treatment and every day we learn of another attack on our right to exist in this country.
Despite everything we're hearing on the news on through social media, I remain hopeful. We are not alone in this fight, but we need to make connections with our community to stand together successfully. It will take all of us to ensure democracy survives, on the local, state and federal level. I appreciate every signature, every dollar and every action you've taken to be a part of this. Let's keep turning up the heat and MELT ICE!
