Urge Lula & the Brazilian Government to Extend the Digital Nomad Visa Duration to 5 Years
The Issue
As a digital nomad, I have been fortunate enough to call Brazil my home for the past two years. My Digital Nomad Visa, however, is set to expire in October 2024. This visa has allowed me to live and work remotely in this beautiful country without taking jobs from local residents. It's a situation that benefits both myself and Brazil - I contribute economically without straining local job markets.
Currently, the duration of this visa is limited to one year with an option for renewal for another year. After that, it requires living six months outside Brazil before being eligible for a new application - an unnecessary disruption not only in my professional life but also personal relationships that I've built here over time.
I am not alone in this situation; many digital nomads face similar challenges due to these restrictions. Extending the duration of the Digital Nomad Visa from its current maximum of two years up to five years would provide stability and continuity for remote workers like us who have chosen Brazil as our base.
We urge Lula and the Brazilian government to consider extending the duration of the Digital Nomad Visa up to five years while maintaining its requirements such as proof of income, remote employment, and health insurance coverage which ensure we are contributing positively towards Brazilian society.
Please sign this petition if you believe in supporting digital nomads' rights while promoting economic growth within Brazil.
