The Issue

APTA Colorado is calling on Life Time Fitness, a prominent health and wellness company, to voluntarily discontinue its use of the DPT: Dynamic Personal Training trademark. This trademark is confusing consumers who associate the acronym 'DPT' with Doctors of Physical Therapy. The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) recognizes 'DPT' as an abbreviation for Doctorate in Physical Therapy, a professional degree held by over 99% of physical therapists in the U.S., according to data from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). By using this same abbreviation for their Dynamic Personal Training program, Life Time Fitness is creating unnecessary confusion and potentially misleading consumers about the nature and qualifications associated with their services. We urge Life Time Fitness to respect professional designations and cease using this confusing trademark immediately. Please sign this petition if you agree that clear communication about health services is crucial for informed consumer decisions.
