Urge Lake Elsinore and Riverside County to Respect ADA and FHA Regulations for Emotional Support Animals

The Issue

As a disabled veteran, I have experienced firsthand the profound impact that emotional support animals can have on mental health. My wife and I, both deeply passionate about animal rescue, have built a small family of rescued pets who provide us with invaluable emotional support. They are far from being public nuisances; they bring joy not only to our lives but also to everyone who visits them.

Our dream is to extend this healing power of animals by opening a rescue center for people with disabilities, veterans, and children. We believe in the therapeutic potential of animals as an alternative to pharmaceutical treatments for mental health issues.

However, we are currently facing challenges from the City of Lake Elsinore and Riverside County Code Enforcement regarding our emotional support animals. We urge them to honor reasonable accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Fair Housing Act (FHA).

According to these federal laws, individuals with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations for any service or emotional support animal that assists them in their daily life (Source: ADA National Network). This includes those living within city limits where certain breeds or types might otherwise be restricted.

We ask you all - fellow residents of California - to join us in this fight. Your signature will send a strong message that our community values compassion over bureaucracy. It's time we recognize the importance of emotional support animals in aiding those struggling with mental health issues.

Please sign this petition today! Let's ensure that everyone has access to the healing power of pets without unnecessary restrictions or discrimination.
