Urge L.A. Mayor and Councilmember Park to Extend Restricted Access to Sunset Mesa Malibu

The Issue

Sunset Mesa Malibu remains a community fraught with devastation. As residents, we are yet to recover from the recent calamitous disruptions that have shattered our peaceful existence. Today we are caught in a whirlwind of decisions, that stand to dismantle, rather than defend, the delicate balance we're striving to restore.

Restricted access was put in place, a consequence born of these repeated shocks, to guard and guide us during the course of recovery. Rolling back this restricted access, as currently being deliberated without the community's consent, seems like a premature and detrimental move, offering no clear benefit to us, the impacted residents. Rather, it threatens to impose an unwarranted burden on a community that has barely embarked on the journey of healing.

It is our earnest and emphatic appeal to the L.A. Mayor and Councilmember Park: Extend the restricted access currently in place at Sunset Mesa Malibu. We need this critical respite to recover, to rebuild, and to regain our footing. Directing resources towards maintaining this status quo will ensure that they are utilized optimally, with attentiveness to our plight and cognizance of our dire need for stability and security. Every resident of this community deserves the right to rebuild without pressure, without haste, and with all necessary safeguarding measures in place.

Therefore, we implore our city’s officials, particularly the L.A. Mayor and Councilmember Park, to reconsider the proposed lifting of the restricted access to Sunset Mesa Malibu. We, as a community, bear witness to the fragility of our environment. We ask those in power to bear witness too.

Please sign this petition and stand with Sunset Mesa Malibu as we fight against the proposed lifting of restricted access, and campaign for the extension and prioritization of resources to aid our restoration efforts.
