Key Capture Energy, owned by South Korean global energy provider SK E&S, is seeking a reinvestment zone and tax abatement in Kendall County, TX. The proposed project is a BESS (battery energy storage system) located on 8 leased acres off Flat Rock Creek Rd in Comfort, TX. Despite providing almost no long term jobs to the local community, Key Capture Energy seeks a 7 year tax abatement from Kendall County on top of the federal tax credits they qualify for under Biden's Inflation Reduction Act. According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, such tax abatements often fail to deliver promised economic growth (source: Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy). Furthermore, granting these privileges may set a precedent for other corporations to seek similar concessions, further straining our local economy. We must protect our county's financial stability and ensure fair taxation for all entities operating within it. Therefore, we call upon the Kendall County Commissioner’s Court to vote NO on granting Key Capture Energy a reinvestment zone and any tax abatement.
