Urge Joe Barile to consider running for Flagler County Sheriff in 2028
The Issue
Joe Barile did not create, request, authorize, or participate in this petition.
This was started independently by people in our community who simply want Joe to see something that can be difficult to measure through social media comments alone:
How many Flagler County residents would like him to consider running for Sheriff in 2028?
Joe has not announced a campaign, and this petition does not speak for him.
But if enough people in the community believe he should consider taking that next step, we want him to be able to see that support for himself.
Joe Barile’s connection to Flagler County goes far beyond holding a position at the Sheriff’s Office.
He graduated from Flagler Palm Coast High School and began serving with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in 2007. Over nearly two decades, he worked in Community Policing, Investigative Services, Homeland Security and special investigations, eventually becoming a Commander and then Chief Deputy.
His career represents something increasingly rare: someone who grew up in the community, built his career serving that same community and worked his way through the ranks of the agency responsible for protecting it.
During his career, Joe was involved in the development and success of the Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center and the implementation of technology designed to help law enforcement respond more effectively and reduce crime.
He also continued developing as a law enforcement leader, including attending the FBI National Academy in Quantico.
In January 2025, after nearly 18 years with the agency, Joe was appointed Chief Deputy.
That position placed him near the top of the organization and gave him responsibility involving law enforcement operations as well as court and detention operations.
But titles and résumés only tell part of the story.
For many people in Flagler County, Joe is someone they know personally.
He grew up here.
He built his career here.
He spent nearly his entire adult life serving here.
And throughout that career, he remained involved with the community he came from, including participating in programs recognizing local students and representing the Sheriff’s Office throughout Flagler County.
Joe has also publicly shared that becoming Sheriff of Flagler County someday has been a longtime personal goal.
Whether he ever chooses to pursue that goal is entirely his decision.
This petition is not intended to make that decision for him.
It is simply an opportunity for the community to answer one question:
Joe, if the people of Flagler County asked you to seriously consider running for Sheriff in 2028, would you consider it?
If you live in Flagler County and would like Joe Barile to consider becoming a candidate for Sheriff, add your name.
And if Joe has personally impacted you, your family, your organization or this community during his years of service, consider leaving a comment explaining your experience.
Those stories may ultimately say more than any number ever could.
This is an independent community-interest petition. It is not an official campaign, candidate petition or ballot-qualification effort, and Joe Barile is not involved in organizing it.
