Urge Jess Hilarious to Refrain from Using Offensive Slurs on "The Breakfast Club"

The Issue

As a person of color, hearing racial slurs used casually on the radio, especially early in the morning, lands heavily on my ears and my soul. It is difficult to escape the weight of centuries of racism embodied in that one word permeating what should be a light-hearted part of my daily routine. We request Jess Hilarious from “The Breakfast Club” to stop using the N word live on air.

This is not just a personal issue. Many listeners find themselves in a similar situation - at work, in the presence of young impressionable children, or simply trying to start their day on a positive note. Hearing such language is not only offensive, but can also set a negative tone for the remainder of their day.

While freedom of speech is a cherished principle, there is also a responsibility to respect the audience and maintain a certain level of decorum on public broadcasts. According to a report from the National Association of Broadcasters in 2021, 72% of respondents agreed that on-air personalities should adhere to guidelines prohibiting the use of offensive language (National Association of Broadcasters, 2021). This clearly shows that many listeners are in support of a more mindful and respectful radio environment.

Let's urge Jess Hilarious and the "Breakfast Club" to take a stand against casual use of racial slurs, showing the listeners, and the rest of the radio community, that respect and inclusivity matter. It's time for a change. Please sign this petition to make it happen.
