Lewiston's Humane Society has tirelessly dedicated itself to caring for abandoned animals and promoting animal welfare. Nonetheless, like many nonprofits, they grapple with financial constraints that limit their critical services.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is a renowned player in animal protection. They boast a significant budget surplus, much of which is used for lobbying and fundraising, but little is returned to animal shelters in local communities. According to the HuffPost, less than 1% of HSUS's budget is directly invested into local shelters.

The Lewiston community thus calls upon HSUS to dedicate a fraction of their budget towards local shelter investments, starting with Lewiston's Humane Society. This investment will allow our shelter to broaden its capacity, rescue more animals and deepen our outreach and education efforts.

Furthermore, according to recent CDC statistics, communities with robust animal shelters and outreach programs experience a decline in stray animal populations and related public health concerns.

We believe that a strong commitment from HSUS will tremendously impact Lewiston's local shelter, directly improving the lives of countless animals.
