This petition is born out of a deeply personal and distressing situation that has been unfolding for years in Cheatham County, Tennessee. Neighbors have witnessed a heartbreaking case of dog abandonment, neglect, abuse, and cruelty at the hands of a local breeder. Despite numerous complaints and pleas for intervention, the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) has repeatedly failed to take appropriate action.

In December 2022, the CCSO visited the premises following reports of dogs being left in extreme temperatures without proper insulation. Astonishingly, they deemed these conditions acceptable. Since then animal cruelty laws have become more stringent but this week we saw temperatures drop to record lows with senior dogs and puppies left to perish in horrid conditions - once again deemed 'proper' by CCSO.

This ongoing negligence cannot continue unchallenged. We are calling on Governor Bill Lee to personally intervene and override the systems currently allowing for CCSO's final say on this matter. We demand a thorough investigation into this longstanding case of animal neglect by an impartial agency or outside rescue organization.

The animals suffering at the hands of this breeder deserve justice; those responsible must be held accountable under our strengthened animal cruelty laws. The residents of Cheatham County deserve better from their law enforcement agencies; they should not have to witness such atrocities without recourse.
