Urge Frederick County Board of Education to Preserve Music Education
Urge Frederick County Board of Education to Preserve Music Education
The Issue
I am a product of music education. From the moment I picked up an instrument in 3rd grade, my life was changed forever. The experiences and friendships that have come from being involved in music are invaluable and lifelong. It is with this personal perspective that I urge the Frederick County Board of Education to recognize that music education is not just an extracurricular activity, but a fundamental part of our curriculum.
Music education has been proven to enhance cognitive abilities, improve academic performance, foster creativity and provide social-emotional benefits (National Association for Music Education). Yet despite these well-documented benefits, it is often one of the first areas targeted for cuts when budgets are tight.
Any reduction in our music programs would have far-reaching implications. It would deny students the opportunity to develop their musical talents and rob them of a vital outlet for self-expression. Furthermore, it would undermine our community's cultural vitality.
We must not let short-term financial considerations deprive future generations of these important benefits. We call upon the Frederick County Board of Education to uphold its commitment to comprehensive education by preserving our valued music programs.
Please sign this petition today if you believe in keeping music alive within our schools, especially at the elementary level.
