Urge Forest Hills Cemetery to Reallow Dogs on Their Grounds

Urge Forest Hills Cemetery to Reallow Dogs on Their Grounds
The Issue
I write this petition as a concerned citizen, a dog owner, and an enthusiast of the outdoors. The Forest Hills Cemetery's decision to ban dogs, post-Covid, is one that affects not only my everyday life, but also that of many others in our community. This area, characterized by its extraordinary beauty, has been the home base for many dog-walkers and lovers of fresh air. I, too, have spent countless days and hours walking my dog here, taking in the tranquility that this open space offers. However, the recent prohibition has not only deprived me of this leisure, it has also led to numerous disagreements with security. I, along with many others, am advised not to even be near the cemetery with my canine companion.
The call is not for an unrestricted entry, but one laden with responsibility. Dogs would remain on leashes and under the strict control of their owners. Owners would be obliged to clean up after their pets and dispose of the waste properly. This allows for a harmonious coexistence, observing both the sanctity of the Cemetery and the needs of the community.
The pandemic, according to CDC, has encouraged people to increase outdoor activities for mental and physical wellbeing. Gardens and cemeteries that allow dog walking, have been cited as potential means to promote outdoor activity and community involvement (source: CDC guidelines). The Forest Hills Cemetery is one such beautiful space that encourages its visitors to engage with nature.
Please join me in drawing the attention of the Forest Hill Cemetery authorities to reconsider this decision. Let's ensure that we can continue enjoying the beauty of this place with our furry companions. Sign this petition and support the return of dogs to Forest Hills Cemetery.
