Urge for the Ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT)

Urge for the Ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT)
The Issue
As a student living in DC, I feel a deep personal concern about nuclear testing and its catastrophic effects. It's time to discuss why the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) matters to us and why it needs swift ratification. This international agreement, if fully ratified and enacted, can dramatically diminish the risk of nuclear weapons proliferation globally. As it stands, the treaty has been signed by 185 states and ratified by 170 (source: CTBTO.org), but it can only enter into force after it has been ratified by all 44 states listed in Annex 2 of the treaty. The United States is one of these yet to ratify.
The CTBT is not just a political issue - it is a matter of human survival, a determinant of our future, and a testament to our commitment to global peace. To control the proliferation of nuclear weapons is to build a safer world. Our shared interest in global security makes this an urgent appeal to the broader public and our government. With your support, we can convey to the U.S. government the necessity of ratifying the CTBT, thus making the global elimination of nuclear weapons tests a reality.
Our future depends on creating a world free from the threat of nuclear weapons. Together, let's ensure that the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty is ratified. Please sign and share this petition.
