Why this petition matters

Started by Fig (Food is Good)

Food manufacturers can use vague terms like "natural flavors" and "spices" to hide thousands of ingredients in their products—everything from food colorings to animal derivatives. And we're fed up with it.

To the untrained eye, these ingredients look innocent enough. But for the millions of us with specific food allergies and other dietary restrictions, we need to know everything that’s in our food. Otherwise, we can end up in painful and even life-threatening situations.

And to make matters worse, more than 50% of products in a typical grocery store have at least one vague ingredient.

It only makes sense we’d want to know what’s in our food, right? We spend hours emailing and calling manufacturers, just to be told their ingredients are "proprietary."

By signing this petition, you're urging food manufacturers—big and small—to commit to telling us EVERY. SINGLE. INGREDIENT.

Because we just want to know what we can eat.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Sign the petition and share the link with everyone you know: everyingredient.org
  2. Share how vague ingredients impact you using the hashtag #EveryIngredient
  3. Encourage food companies to sign the Ingredient Transparency Pledge

Who’s Asking:

We’re Fig. As of June 2022, our app is helping over 180,000 people like us with food allergies and other dietary restrictions find food that they can eat, no matter how specific their restrictions are. But with even the most complex filtering algorithms, we still can’t tell someone definitively if a product works for them or not because of one thing—poor ingredient transparency. So we need your help in holding the food industry honest and accountable. If not for you, then for those around you who need to know what’s in their food.
