This petition is to urge Florida State University to consider the emotional and psychological well-being of their students and cancel the upcoming finals, in light the a recent on-campus shooting. The traumatic event has left many students distressed and unable to focus on their studies. According to an Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors survey, 70% of students experience traumatic events during college which can disrupt their academic progress. The American Psychological Association also upholds that trauma can impair memory function and learning ability. Given these statistics, it is a call to compassionate and reasonable decision-making. Let our students' health and wellbeing take precedence. Now, we turn to you – the community, the parents, the fellow students, teachers, and defenders of mental health – to support this cause and demand Florida State University to cancel the finals, providing our students with the necessary time and resources to heal.
