Stop the Mass Killing of Street Animals in Morocco Ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup

We are Stray Dog Support—an organization rooted in compassion, dedicated to protecting vulnerable animals and supporting communities through international animal aid.

 

Right now, we are witnessing one of the most urgent and devastating animal welfare crises in the world.

 

In preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, millions of street dogs and cats in Morocco are being systematically captured and killed.

 

Reports from local government,  rescuers and local communities indicate that over 3 million animals are being be targeted.

 

But this is not humane population control. This is torture and brutality. 

 

These animals are being subjected to violent, inhumane methods—killed in the streets, often slowly, often in terror, and often in full view of the communities they belong to.

There is no consistent humane protocol. No transparency. No protection.

 

Children are witnessing acts of brutality. Families are living alongside trauma.

And those who try to intervene—rescuers, advocates, and citizens—are facing threats, intimidation, and violence for standing up against it.

 

This is not just about animals.

 

This is about the soul of a community—and what is being allowed to happen in the name of a global sporting event meant to unite the world.

 

THIS IS NOT WHAT FOOTBALL REPRESENTS

Football is more than a game.

 

Under FIFA, it is meant to represent unity, respect, community, and global connection. The World Cup is one of the most watched and celebrated events on earth—bringing people together across cultures, borders, and beliefs.

 

But this violence stands in direct contradiction to those values.

A global event meant to unite the world cannot be built on fear, cruelty, and the mass killing of vulnerable lives.

 

Fans, players, and communities around the world do not support this.

 

This is not what the global football community stands for.

This is not the legacy the World Cup should leave behind.

Moroccan citizens themselves are speaking out. They are asking for humane, sustainable solutions:

 • Spay and neuter programs

 • Vaccination initiatives

 • Community-based animal care

 

They are asking for compassion—not cruelty.

 

We stand with them.

 

Our Demand:

We call on FIFA, all member associations, and global stakeholders to take immediate action:

 • STOP the mass culling of street animals in Morocco

 • ENFORCE strict animal welfare standards as a condition of hosting the 2030 World Cup

 • INVEST in humane, long-term population control solutions

 • PROTECT Moroccan citizens and rescuers advocating for these animals
