The Issue

Dear Eastleigh Council,

We are writing to urge you to take action on the overgrown shrubbery that is obstructing pavements and reducing road visibility in our community. This issue has been causing inconvenience and safety hazards for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.

Overgrown shrubs can make it difficult for people with disabilities or mobility issues to navigate through pavements. It also forces them onto the road, putting them at risk of accidents. Moreover, overgrown shrubs can obscure drivers' view of pedestrians crossing the street or other vehicles approaching from side roads.

According to a report by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), "poor visibility caused by vegetation" was a contributing factor in 28% of all reported accidents on rural roads in 2019. This highlights how crucial it is to maintain clear sightlines on our roads.

We understand that maintaining green spaces is important but not at the expense of public safety. As responsible citizens, we believe that it's essential for local authorities like yourselves to ensure that pavements are accessible and roads are safe for everyone.

Therefore, we respectfully request that you take immediate action to clear any overgrown shrubbery obstructing pavements and reducing road visibility in our community.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

M Dechnik
