My family and I were heartbroken all over again at the DA’s decision not to press criminal charges against the two officers who murdered my husband. The subsequent report and even footage that has been released does not tell the whole story-it was carefully selected and curated to spin their narrative. There are gross omissions, blatant discrepancies, and outright falsehoods. In addition, my husband is not referred to as a patron, customer, or even the victim in this report, but as a “criminal” and a “suspect.” He was neither. Derrick never pointed or “waved” the alleged replica gun-he never even raised it. He was a husband, son, uncle, cousin, friend. He loved to read, cook, and spend time with our rescue dog Luna, who adored him. His life had value and he mattered. I will not stop until we have justice for Derrick. 
In all of the officer involved shootings (OIS) in Gastonia, NC involving a Black victim, not A SINGLE TIME has a district attorney pressed criminal charges. It’s time to try a different route. Let’s see what a Grand Jury has to say.
