In Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) we were introduced to their reimagining of the seven dwarfs which consists of Doc, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, Grumpy, and Dopey. I have always loved the Seven Dwarfs!! Their quirky personalities and unique traits have massively contributed to the charm of the stories we love and have captured the hearts of audiences for almost 90 years! I recently heard that Disney had a movie prequel in the works which was supposed to be released back in 2006. It was going to center around the Dwarfs, offering a deeper dive into their playful world filled with adventure and camaraderie. Heartbreakingly, that project got cancelled, leaving many fans, including myself, yearning for more of these endearing characters! According to this scrapped teaser trailer that I found on YouTube, it was supposed to be called "Snow White II" even though it was a prequel. However, there were some other sources that said it was supposed to be called "The Seven Dwarfs" instead. Envision the thrilling escapades and hilarious antics they could embark on in their very own feature-length movie or an episodic TV series either animated or live action. Imagine delving into their individual backstories, tackling challenges in their whimsical yet perilous world, all the while sticking together as the loving 'brotherhood' that they are. It's not only a chance to expand Disney’s classic universe but also an opportunity to introduce these beloved characters to a new generation, potentially creating lasting memories. Ever since their appearance in the original animated classic, they haven't been given that much expanded content. Well yes, they have made special appearances and cameos in several Disney projects but there has been barely anything that takes place in Disney's Snow White universe. In fact, I heard they had a short film sequel called "Snow White Returns." It was in the works sometime after the original animated classic came out but it got cancelled. Also, there were some other non-Disney projects that were made that were kind of related to Disney's version. This movie company called Filmation released a movie called "Happily Ever After" in 1989 which was kind of intended to be a sequel to Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Or maybe mostly for the original story in general. It didn't seem to feature the dwarfs but had these creatures called "The Seven Dwarfettes" who were related to them though. Unfortunately, the movie wasn't very good and successful and Filmation got shut down a short while after. In 2011, ABC came out with this TV series called "Once Upon a Time" which featured several fairy tales including Snow White. It actually had some of the elements from Disney's classic animated version. Not only that but it seemed to be a continuation to the movie in some ways. However, Disney recently came out with the live action remake in 2025 which was simply just called "Snow White" and it obviously featured the seven dwarfs. I really liked the remake just like the original version! The seven dwarfs were silly, funny, and lovable more than ever!! I liked them in both versions!! I really hope Disney will make a live action Snow White 2 someday! What I find very annoying and frustrating is that we might not be getting a sequel to either version of Disney's Snow White! For the old version, Disney supposedly stopped doing sequels for their animated classics while the new version received mixed controversy and didn't do so well at the box office. We need a Snow White 2 in general!! But in some ways, I much prefer a sequel to the live action remake!! So I thought of this: If Disney doesn't give either version of Snow White a sequel, then maybe they should give the seven dwarfs their own movie or TV series like I said before. Either a revival of the cancelled project or something new and different! We need to see more of these beloved characters either way!! According to discussion in a broader fan base and casual conversations, there's an evident desire for more content involving the Dwarfs. Their individual charms and captivating group dynamics would offer rich storytelling ingredients, comparable to other beloved ensemble cast productions. This could mean success not only creatively but also commercially, aiding in fortifying Disney’s ongoing legacy of storytelling excellence. We urge Disney to revisit this idea and either revive the prequel or create an original concept which brings these underappreciated characters back into the world stage they deserve.
