As Deakin students, we have been traumatised by the daily images of dead children, women, men, and animals on our social media for the past 7 months. Israel is currently carrying out a genocide in Gaza, having killed over 35,000 Palestinians and injuring over 78,000. This includes deliberate targeting of schools and hospitals as well as aid vehicles.

Deakin University has multiple ties to weapons companies that are core to Israeli weapons systems. This includes partnerships with Quickstep and BAE Systems through the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance enterprise. These connections make us complicit in the violence against innocent civilians.

We call on Deakin University to immediately cut all ties with Israel and any weapons companies that sell arms to Israel.

We also demand that Deakin University disclose all ties and partnerships with weapons manufacturing companies and the Israeli state. 

Students are calling for peace and an end to arming a military force that is subject to orders to stop genocide. That’s something everyone should support.
