Urge Daytona Beach to Uphold Human Rights in Sex Offender Registration

The Issue

Daytona Beach prides itself on being a city inclusive of all but there remains a concern regarding its treatment of sex offenders during their registration process. Reports indicate a dire need for improvements in ensuring human rights respects during these proceedings (source: Amnesty International, 2020 report). Every person, regardless of their past, is constitutionally entitled to equal protection under the law in the United States (source: U.S. Constitution, 14th Amendment). The requirement to uphold human rights should remain as integral to procedures as public safety. As citizens, it is our responsibility to make sure that our city embodies the values it pronounces. We call upon the local government, law enforcement agencies, and relevant bodies in Daytona Beach to review and update the procedures of sex offender registration to ensure they are in line with internationally recognized human rights standards. Please, sign this petition to push for more humane practices in Daytona Beach.
