Urge Cox Communications to Provide Reliable Service for Virginia Beach Residents

The Issue

Dependent on high-speed internet for my remote work, in addition to so many things that we rely on the internet for and having poor service is unacceptable at this point. I'm finding Cox Communications' service in Virginia Beach inadequate. Reliable, high-speed internet is the backbone of remote work, allowing access to emails, collaboration with colleagues, attending virtual meetings, and performing critical and essential job functions uninterrupted. Undoubtedly, this service is the foundation of our successful remote work setup.

Our community relies heavily on these services, particularly now with the increasing need and flexibility for remote work. It is more critical than ever to maintain a stable and reliable internet connection. Regrettably, Cox Communications, the only service provider in our area, does not fulfill our needs and leaves us with no choice but to pay under the penalty of action for a service that they hold no obligations to provide. Cox has monopolized our city not allowing the consumers for other reliable service providers. Cox will only provide a credit to consumers during outages unless you personally put in a phone call to ask for a credit. Cox should provide an automatic credit to consumers during outages.

It is worth noting that the Better Business Bureau, has been continuing to get hundreds of repeated complaints for unsatisfied and inconsistent service of Cox Communications, and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) complaints. In 2018, A class-action lawsuit was filed against Cox Communications for allegedly falsely advertising its residential internet services. Specifically, the complaint alleges that the company advertises “blazing fast” and “reliable” internet speeds that it does not deliver. "Superior Courte of the State of California, The Class Action Cox Internet Lawsuit is Erhman v. Cox Communications Inc., Case 8:18-cv-01125-JVS-DFM."

This petition calls on Cox Communications to acknowledge and fix the shortcomings in its services for the residents of Virginia Beach and take immediate action to improve its service reliability. We appreciate the efforts of the municipal government to address this matter, but it falls on the service provider, Cox Communications, to ensure the quality of its services for the benefit of its customers. We urge all the residents of Virginia Beach to stand together by signing this petition as a united front advocating for improved service from Cox Communications. As well as advocate to Virginia Beach City Officials not to have Cox monopolizing our city; not allowing the consumers other reliable service provider options.
